# Dynamic viscosity

Dynamic (absolute) viscosity measures internal resistance of a fliud. Dynamic viscosity is the tangential force per unit area required to move one horizontal plane with respect to the other at unit velocity when maintained a unit distance apart by the fluid.

SI system units for dynamic viscosity are newton-second per square meter, N s/m2, pascal-second, Pa·s, or kilogram per meter-second, kg/m s: 1 N s/m2 = 1 Pa·s = 1 kg/m s

It can be expressed using centimeter-gram-second system units, such as gram per centimeter-second, g/cm.s, dyne-second per square centimeter, dyne.s/cm2, or poise: 1 poise = 1 dyne s/cm2 = 1 g/cm s = 1/10 Pa·s
